Language of Reference





*Simple past

The simple past is used to fix event and situations in the past, you can use it to say when the event or situation happened.

We met at the restaurant
Note: Many verbs have irregular past forms and we have to learn them.



*Past continuous

We use past continuous for an action or situation that was in progress at a particular time in the past.

When I walked into the room, Emily was writing postcards and Alex was reading



*Present Perfect


The present perfect has several uses, but it always shows a connection between the past and now. We use it to talk about situations that started in the past and that continue now.



I have worked here for less than a week



*Simple present

We use the simple present to talk about facts (things which are true at any time)

Anna speaks good English.

*Present Continuous

We use it to talk about present situation thth we see as temporary they can be activities in progress or changing situations.

- Iam learning two foreing languages right now
- My voice is getting louder every day

1.- Read the followings paragraphs and chose the best answer for it.

A) My first dates were/was always exciting/exited experiences. I mean, here I had/have a woman who liked/likes me. She likes/liked my appearance. She hadn't/hasn’t heard anything from other people that would turn her off. She was/were already interested / interesting in me and opens for a new relationship. I was/were in turn interested in her. I wanted/want to know everything about this potential mate. What did/does her parents do? What is/does her family like? These are interesting/interested topics and of course they are important to her.


B) We met/meet at the restaurant and talked/talk and find/found out we have a lot in common and have/had been in many of the same places at different times and in general hit it off real well. The meal went / goes fine and I could/can see she was/were tired from work and kept/keep it reasonably short.
